FTC Issues Refund to Businesses HomeAdvisor’s Deceptive Practices

The company claimed to provide a month of free mHelpDesk, but actually charged extra for the service.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has begun refunding over $3 million to businesses that paid HomeAdvisor for memberships. Claim forms are also being sent to eligible businesses. HomeAdvisor was found to be using deceptive marketing practices for home improvement project leads to small businesses.

The complaint from the FTC in March of 2022 “alleged that since at least mid-2014, HomeAdvisor made false, misleading, or unsubstantiated claims about the quality and source of the leads it was selling to home service providers in search of potential customers.“

The company was also alleged to have misled businesses regarding the “quality of customer leads they would get with their membership.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Lina Khan to be discerning as she heads the FTC.
  • For commissioners of the FTC to be prudent regarding consumer and business protections.
